Default An Icy Proposal

We had been together for about 4 years and had recently bought a house together. I wasn't going anywhere and was really in no hurry to get married. She was. She wanted a ring. I had a signet ring I had made for myself with a really nice 1.07 carat marquis diamond that I rarely wore. She was aware of the diamond and figured that if I wasn't wearing it, she should be, and the sooner the better.

Well, Christmas was rolling around and her family had a tradition of rotating the "hosting" of the Christmas celebration among the family members. Having recently purchased our house, it was her year to host the family Christmas. She wanted a ring for Christmas. I insisted that Christmas was not about getting engaged. It was a religious holiday to celebrate with friends and family and that she would not be getting a ring. I lied.

The Plan

I told all the family members, hers and mine, what was going to take place. She liked to drink White Zinfandel on the rocks. So, my plan was to freeze the ring in the center of an ice cube and present it to here in a glass of wine at some point during the party.

What Really Happened

Being the cook and grocery shopper of the household, I was off to the store to buy all the things I needed for the snacks, food, as well as the beverages for the Christmas party. My list included 5 bottles of White Zinfandel. The party started on Christmas Eve with her daughters arriving and we sat around eating, drinking, talking and laughing as we exchanged gifts late into the evening. It really was a good time.

I was up early on Christmas Day starting to get all the hors d'oeuvres and food ready for the day. Getting a little excited about presenting the engagement ring, I checked on my precious ice cube that I had hidden in the freezer, and it was THEN that I noticed 4 of the 5 bottles of wine I had bought for delivering my surprise had gone missing. Actually, not missing, emptied the night before. Not a real problem, right? Still one left. Wrong.

Friends and family began arriving, everyone alerted as to what was going to happen. Everyone, talking, laughing, eating and having a terrific time. I decided NOW was the time for my surprise. Tipping everyone off that I was ready to deliver the engagement ring, I asked her if she'd like me to get her a glass of wine. "No" she said. "There's only one bottle left and we should save that for the guests. I'll have a glass of Bailey's on the rocks instead." Those of you not familiar with Bailey's Irish Cream, it looks kind of like chocolate milk. YOU CAN'T SEE THROUGH IT!

I placed a few ice cubes, including the one with engagement ring frozen in the center, in a glass and added the Bailey's. I crossed my fingers as I handed her the glass. Everyone watched, cameras ready, as I anxiously waited for her to discover her gift. Well, she didn't see it and handed me the glass and asked for some more. I glanced into the glass, handed it back to her and asked... "Are you sure?" "YES" she said handing the glass back to me, "Please get me some more!" This time I stare into the glass and go "Ewwww!" as I hand it back. NOW she sees it! Cameras flashing, and tears streaming down her face as she races into the kitchen to free her engagement ring that I had so carefully frozen into the center of an ice cube.

Hugs, kisses and congratulations were all around. My "perfect proposal" didn't go exactly as planned but I wouldn't have changed a thing! What a wonderful Christmas it turned out to be.

Hehehehe... yes indeed.

At family gatherings when there's a new boyfriend or such, every once in a while someone will come up, nudge me in the ribs and say "Tell the story!"

Default Really cool one

I like this story--should be a chapter in a love story. The proposal I got was not really that colorful -- but well, it made me the happiest person in the planet. Now its my turn to help brides during their shopping tours and I hear a lot of stories too

Hello
Pathway Communities’ Twelve Parks at Sharpsburg planned community got an icy reception Monday night from the more than 200 people that packed the recreation center in the tiny eastern Coweta town.

Twelve Parks at Sharpsburg would be built along McIntosh Trail, Reese Road and Ga. Highway 54 and is one of the proposed developments in Coweta County that is sounding alarms across Line Creek in Fayette County.

The Peachtree City-based developer started the presentation by unveiling the name and logo for the community that will feature 725 single-family homes, 60 townhomes and two commercial tracts. The name stems from the 12 parks that will be scattered throughout the massive development.

The proposed development fronts Hwy. 54 less than four miles from the Peachtree City and Fayette County borders.

“We wanted a name that addressed the specific characteristics of the proposed development, and we believe Twelve Parks will be a name that will be memorable and will resonate with homebuyers,” said Vice President of Marketing Peggy Sullivan.

It seems as if things turned out the way they were supposed to. Congratulations. Now, how are you going to outdo that on the wedding day?
