Default Jewellery design

Here's a discussion starter: what do you think of the brooch that won first prize at this link? Unfortunately, I can't work out how to insert the picture! I'll copy the link to the pic.

http://www.perlesdetahiti.net/items/...n-00001740.jpg

I like the curves, I love the pearls and I love the pave but the design is not something that I would personally wear. I really do like the curves of the metal. Maybe it's a bit heavy for my liking. Maybe if the design were more open? I can appreciate it as it is but it's not a design I would actually choose to wear.

Comments? Criticisms? Praise?

Unique, but too many things going on for me. Tried to meld too much.

One thing I really do not like is the haphazzard use of the pink stones. The effect would have been much greater and would have flowed with design far better had they graduated the colors and allowed them to flow from the most intense pink to clear.

I see what you mean Dave about the colours. I suppose I like the individual components more than the combination.

I too like the combination yet...

When you hold a pearl, are you not inclined to roll it around between your fingers to see what's on the other side?

The design of this piece should beg you to want to roll it around to see what's on the other side, or at least side to side. For me it doesn't.

Guess that why I'm the "mechanic" and not the "designer"

Dave

no... the Corvair was not my fault!

I see what you mean Dave about the colours and the pearls. I guess I didn't like those things too, but I hadn't noticed. It looked like a bit of a plate with bits stuck on and it is not how I'd do it. I can also see the excellent setting work that went in, as well as the correctness of the overall shape. The first time I saw this on an e-mail my reply was WOW, because I couldn't quite see how it was built. It definately has a lot offer. To have won a prize, I believe it must have felt good in the hands too.

My only complaint about this piece is the fang just begging to rip into someone's skin.. I understand why it was made that way, but like so many award winning designs out there, it simply doesn't look wearable to me..

As a work of art, I love it.. As a piece of jewelry, not so in love..

I love pearls but I had never thought about them in that way. You are absolutely right Dave. I'll post some pics of the latest pearls that I've bought but are awaiting suitable designs.

Oh I dunno I might wear it...then again I wore a necklace made of colored macaroni my daughter made in Kindergarten last Christmas...ahem
that said, as the layman here (aka blithering fool who only knows how to buy jewelry) I can appreciate that it took craftsmanship to make it all stick together but pinned to me...don't think so...and if it were, most likely people would ask which of my kids made it.
pretty elements but eh on the look of it as a piece of jewelry...which i have a firm belief of two things...
Autos were made to be driven, and jewelry was meant to be worn
that's just my .02

I think it has a very unique design. To make it work you would almost have to design your outfit around it.

I actually like it as is, it is very eye-catching. I would wear it proudly.

I agree with the others who say it looks like it could be painful, if not dangerous to wear. It's interesting, but looks to me like the most notable facets of it would be hidden while it's worn. I think I would prefer it if it were more open, almost blossoming in appearance.

It is definitely unique. Maybe suitable for a scarf? Or to hold a cape closed?
